Vaginal thrush is a common yeast infection that most women experience at some point in their life. You can get thrush at any age, but it’s most common in women who are in their 30s and 40s.
What causes it?
Vaginal thrush is caused by yeast from a group of fungi called Candida. It usually lives harmlessly in, or around, your vagina, alongside healthy bacteria. However, if it multiplies more than usual it can lead to thrush. Certain things can cause it to multiply more than usual, these include:
- Having diabetes – that’s not well controlled
- Being pregnant
- Being immunocompromised
- Taking antibiotics
